WHO WE ARE
Hindu Hriday Samrat
Shri. Balasaheb Thackeray
With a life that involved opposing injustice against the common people and standing strong as the voice for the oppressed, Prabodhankar Thackeray was blessed with his son, Bal Thackeray on 23rd January 1926 in Pune. Balasaheb Thackeray’s path was very clear since the beginning, as his childhood was majorly impacted by the independence struggle and the feeling of patriotism around him as well as his father’s involvement in the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement. He was meant to create the difference, and with it, enter politics.
In 1960, Balasaheb left his position as a cartoonist in the daily newspaper, Free Press Journal to start ‘Marmik’, the first Marathi political weekly with cartoons, which spoke at length about the problems faced by the common man and eventually became a powerful medium to reach out to the public. Through ‘Marmik’, Balasaheb impacted the minds of Maharashtrians and made every Maharashtrian take pride in their rich heritage. Looking at the strangulated circumstances of the common Marathi man, he took the decision to fight for their rights and after deep discussions with Prabodhankar and his colleagues, Balasaheb Thackeray established ‘Shivsena’ in Maharashtra on 19th June 1966, and was declared and recognized as Shivsena President throughout Maharashtra. His speeches were deemed as fearless while his words had the power to inspire and left an impact on people’s mind for very long.
After the Maharashtra State Assembly elections in 1995, the saffron flag was seen flying high and proud and Balasaheb Thackeray was seen as an undisputed political leader in Maharashtra. The dream of providing Jhunka Bhakar for ₹2 for the poor people, came true after his position as a leader was cemented in Maharashtra. His perseverance saw fruition with projects such as Matoshree old age homes, houses for the slum dwellers, Mumbai-Pune highway and many other physical and social development projects.
Even though his personna in politics was seen as aggressive and extreme, Balasaheb was a soft-hearted, family man in his personal life. He ruled the hearts of the Shivsainiks as he himself said,“Shivsainiks are my life, my wealth and my strength.”
Hindu Hruday Samrat (“Emperor of Hindu Hearts”) Shivsena President Bal Keshav a.k.a Balasaheb Thackeray will always remain a powerful leader, whose thoughts and words inspired people and who had the capability of not just capturing the common man’s heart but also ruling it!
Shri. Uddhavsaheb Thackeray
A beacon for Hindutva and the guiding light and leader for every Maharashtrian is Shivsena President Uddhavsaheb Thackeray. After ‘Hindu Hriday Samrat’ Balasaheb Thackeray, Shivsena’s leadership was taken over by Uddhavsaheb as he continued the party’s goal and strategy to keep the saffron flag flying high and proud in national politics. He continued on the path of opposing those who took decisions against the benefit of the common man, especially those in power, and most importantly, he stood with the people of Maharashtra, taking decisions for and only for their benefit and prosperity.
Photography, an art that he excels in and something he is passionate about, is always given importance in his life, despite all his political responsibilities. Shivsena President Uddhavsaheb Thackeray is an inspirational leader for all the Shivsainiks as he believes in giving it all for his faith in Hindutva and for people’s welfare and he speaks openly and fearlessly about this vision for his people.
